Expressive Writing with a Quill (in 2 parts)
Can you picture yourself writing with a feather dipped in ink, as people have done for centuries? Imagine no longer! Our Saturday scriptorium will provide that exact photo op, a goose quill from historic Williamsburg, which has been hardened and prepared in the traditional way, then expertly cut for you.
Instruction will cover the dos, don’t, & how-tos of using and caring for your new quill. Your personal cursive handwriting will be the main lettering style.
If you stay for the second hour, you will be guided in expanding your quill skill and learn correction methods. Discover how a quill can convey your thoughts with an unmatched, delicate sensitivity, or boldly emphasize your ideas, as in the Declaration of Independence. We will explore variations of the copperplate alphabet along with flourishing techniques to enhance your handwriting.
Bring a journal entry/ message/ quote to copy on smooth lined writing paper and ink. More adventuresome? Bring parchment, papyrus or even vellum for your advanced project. Open to teens and adults.
