Learn the fundamentals of non-adhesive bookbinding by making three simple, functional book structures: Pamphlet Stitch, Japanese Stab Binding, and Long Stitch. We’ll use high-quality, fountain pen-friendly paper and decorative or handmade paper as covers. This class is a great introduction to bookbinding techniques that don’t require glue or paste.
All materials are included. Tools are provided for use during the workshop, no need to bring anything. Students must be Age 14 or Older. Younger students may take the class with an adult and share one material set.
Speaker: Eli Ball
Eli Ball is a bookbinder based in the St. Louis area and a diploma student at the American Academy of Bookbinding in Colorado. His work explores both traditional fine leather binding and books with interactive elements. Eli occasionally teaches classes at Central Print in St. Louis and oversees book production for Atrium Press, an independent publishing house. He is drawn to bookbinding for its ability to weave together multiple voices—those of the writer, printer, and binder—into a single, beautiful object.
